The Perfect Garden Tool was developed in 2006 by avid gardener and successful entrepreneur Ray Miller. After a heart attack, Ray had a personal need to return to gardening as part of his physical rehabilitation. He quickly discovered that his old tools were too heavy and painful to use. In fact, he found that the traditional tools he was trying to use in his backyard's decorative gardens were actually created centuries ago for day laborers. The idea for Gardener’s Supply began germinating in 1982. Back then, it was difficult for organic gardeners to find the tools and supplies they needed for the way they gardened. Will Raap, an avid organic gardener himself, saw an opportunity to fill this gap. From spending time in Europe, he knew that gardeners there could choose from a wide range of quality gardening tools and supplies. So he began importing these items and offering them for sale through the mail. The idea was an instant success.


In 1983, Will and eight others founded a company, which they named Gardener’s Supply. From the start, this Vermont-based, employee-owned business was lead by avid gardeners, eager to find quality tools and earth-friendly gardening supplies that they could use in their own gardens, and share with friends and customers. This gardener-to-gardener partnership is at the heart of our business.

In addition to importing tools and other gardening sundries from Europe, Gardener’s Supply also established its own research and development capabilities. Products from commercial agriculture were adapted for home use, and staff developed new products that addressed specific gardening challenges. Clean Air Gardening might never have come into existence if Lars Hundley, the president, hadn't been too cheap and environmentally conscious to buy a gasoline powered lawnmower to take care of the yard at a house he was renting back in 1997.


When the spring of 1999 rolled around, Clean Air Gardening had a domain name, accepted credit cards, and was off to the races. Lars had been researching other cool environmentally friendly lawn and garden products he liked in the meantime, and was steadily adding those to the site too.

Sales kept growing and growing, as more customers discovered the web site and liked the products.

Then came Don, who took over the Dallas inventory and shipping operations. Lars' wife Andrea joined the company, followed by Angela, Craig, John, Libba, Lisa and Chris. We bought a building in Dallas, and made that our office and warehouse.

So, as you can see, we're no giant, faceless company. We're just a few people in Dallas, working as fast as we can to make sure that we have plenty of cool, useful, environmentally friendly lawn and garden supplies that we think you'll like. The next decades were characterized by expansion and innovation: Already in 1973, HBM founded its US subsidiary in Marlborough, USA. In 1997, a Chinese subsidiary along with production facilities was founded in Suzhou. In 2008, HBM expanded its portfolio with additional Data Acquisition Systemsdata acquisition instruments and software solutions by purchasing the companies nCode, LDS and SoMat.

Transducer Techniques Inc., established in 1979, designs and manufactures a complete line of load cells, torque sensors, special purpose transducers and related instrumentation. Transducer Techniques load cells are uniquely designed for weighing and force measurement in such diversified applications as process control, factory automation plus hundreds of other services in every field of science and industry. All transducer sensing elements incorporate bonded foil strain gages wired in a full wheatstone bridge configuration.

TECHNOLOGY
Load cells are electro-mechanical transducers that translate force or weight into voltage. This change in voltage produces, in the read-out instrumentation, a repeatable deflection or indication that can be calibrated directly in terms of the load applied to the cell.

CONSTRUCTION
Construction of the load cell utilizes all the advantages of bonded foil strain gages . Sealed within the load cell are sets of matched strain gages bonded to a high strength element, machined to close tolerances. The strain gages are electrically connected to form a balanced Wheatstone bridge and additional compensation resistors are added to the circuit for maintaining the accuracy of the bridge over a wide temperature range.

OPERATION
The principle of operation depends upon the deflection of the strain gage filament, creating a change in its resistance, thereby unbalancing the bridge circuit. As a result, for a given input voltage, the output voltage of the bridge varies proportionally with the load and the change can be read on appropriate instrumentation.

QUALITY
When completed, each load cell is individually tested and calibrated. Each cell must meet or exceed rigid electrical and mechanical performance tests before it is released for service. Also, every cell is proof tested to its full rated capacity, and in most instances, to over its rated capacity.

ATTRIBUTES
An important asset of our load cells is their extremely small deflection. The maximum deflection of standard cells does not exceed .012" at full load. This plus the fact that these load cells contain no moving parts, opens unlimited application fields. The inherent compactness of the cells minimizes installation problems.

The frequency response characteristics of our load cells are exceptionally good. The relatively low mass, and the small deflection under load, result in a high frequency response which emphasizes use of the cells in many services where other transducers cannot perform.

Only strain gages of the highest quality are installed and configured by technicians who have undergone our extensive training program targeting craftsmanship and attention to detail. To the end user, this means a quality product. All Load Cells / Force Sensors, and Torque Sensors are supplied with a Calibration Certificate traceable to NIST.

Royal Paper Box Company was founded in 1940 by Harry Lourie. Months after it’s founding, Harry hired a young die maker named Clary Hodges with whom he had worked previously and who quickly became the production arm of the company. Together, the two young men recognized the opportunities in custom packaging, running a small folding box plant in Los Angeles, CA with about a dozen employees. With an aggressive spirit, the two men grew the company at a fast pace, moving to a larger facility on 61st Street in Los Angeles. When Harry Lourie decided to retire in the mid 1950's, Clary Hodges, a group of outside investors and a few other key employees purchased the company and Royal Paper Box Company was reincorporated under Clary’s management.


To satisfy the increase in volume and the expanding market for custom packaging, Royal purchased its 1st Offset Printing Press, a 29" Miehle, in the early 1960's and later expanded for the second time to a 60,000 square foot facility in Montebello, California. Years of effort and planning led Royal to expand the facility to a greater size, adding 40,000 square feet to the manufacturing facility in late 1970. Since then, Royal has acquired additional adjacent properties and now resides on a sprawling 10-1/2 acre campus with approximately 172,000 square feet under roof.

With a reputation as a consistent high quality folding carton manufacturer with outstanding customer service and an on-time delivery record second to none, Royal Paper Box has achieved steady growth and market penetration over the last 70 years.
